The South African government has proposed a National Health Insurance (NHI) aimed at providing quality healthcare services for all. The Green Paper proposes how the health system will work in the future, how public hospitals/clinics will function and what kind of healthcare every South African will receive under the NHI.

We would like to ensure inclusion of as many voices as possible in the development of an NHI Bill in 2012. Contributions are kindly invited from individuals from the general public non-governmental organizations including NGOs, donor agencies private sector leaders and experts in health systems, primary healthcare and health economics.

Objectives of the Public Consultation

The objectives of this public consultation are to seek:

• comment on specific strategic and political priorities
• comment on the implementation of a health system reform
• suggestions of interventions that could improve the implementation, monitoring and impact of the proposed NHI
